Professional standards program (MOPS)

Maintenance of Professional Standards (MOPS) involves the College reporting, on your behalf, to the appropriate bodies. If you have MOPS requirements, your Practice Reflective Professional Development (PRPD) activities will be accredited for both MOPS and Professional Development Program (PDP) points. MOPS eligibility and reporting requirements for each field are listed below.

Course Eligibility and Requirements

Anaesthetics, medical acupuncture and obstetrics

  • 15 hours of PRPD activities at two points per hour (ie. 30 PRPD points are required for MOPS compliance), or
  • Completion of a six-hour course that contains substantial pre- and post-activity/assessment (awarded 30 PRPD points).
Radiology
  • 15 hours of Practice Reflective Professional Development (PRPD) activities at two points per hour (ie. 30 PRPD points are required for MOPS compliance), or
  • Completion of a six-hour course that contains substantial pre-and post-activity/assessment (awarded 30 PRPD points), or
  • Successful completion of three blocks of 10 cases (30 cases) and their associated assessments in the 150 Shades of Radiology online module (enrol for this module), or
  • Completion of 15 film reviews, supervised and signed off by a Radiologist.

Mental Health Skills Training (MHST)

To continue accessing MBS Item 2715 and 2717, GPs who have completed a GPMHSC accredited Mental Health Skills Training course since 1 July 2001 and are registered with the Department of Human Services, are:

  • not required to repeat this training, and are
  • not required to complete a mental health continuing professional development activity (MH CPD).

However, the GPMHSC strongly recommends that GPs undertake Mental Health Continuing Professional Development (MH CPD) to maintain their mental health skills. (Note: MHST was previously known as Level 1 mental health skills training.)

Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS ST)

To maintain registration for Focussed Psychological Strategies, GPs who have completed both a MHST and Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS ST) course are required to complete a Focussed Psychological Strategies Continuing Professional Development (FPS CPD) each subsequent triennium.
