Australian Health Survey: GP fact sheet

The Australian Health Survey (AHS), commencing across the country in March 2011, will be the most comprehensive study of the health of Australians ever undertaken, involving around 50,000 people. This survey addresses key health information gaps in nutrition and physical activity and will deliver objective biomedical data. There is significant interest in the results of this survey in the health policy, services and research sectors. To find out how you could be involved if your patients are in the survey, please read the fact sheet.

Natural disasters: readiness and recovery

On 10 December 2010, the practice of ACRRM Fellow, Dr David Poland in Queanbeyan, NSW was one of more than 100 Queanbeyan businesses and houses inundated in flash flooding. Dr Poland said that he and his team had 20 minutes to move vital records and equipment to the upper floor. (Flood insurance cannot be obtained for the location.) Their flood preparation and recovery plan helped ensure they had the practice up and running again within 90 hours. It is one of the resources you will find on ACRRM's special resources page, Natural disasters: readiness and recovery.

The College’s online platform, Rural and Remote Medical Education Online (RRMEO) provides whole-of-career support for Australian medical practitioners. The system is easy to use, and is continually being reviewed and revised by our Online Services team. Innovations, such as the first online accredited mental health courses and Elluminate virtual classrooms, help users keep pace with the demands of the medical profession.

At December 2010, more than 15,000 people were registered as users of RRMEO. Over 2,600 of these were ACRRM members using the learning planner and record keeping systems to maintain their learning records (for vocational training, professional development, and other reporting requirements).

So far for 2010, RRMEO has had over 27 000 unique visitors and scored some 9.2 million hits and has had over 139GB of data downloaded.
