The College has identified aged care as an area of policy focus for 2019. This will include a submission to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and developing updated policy positions and statements.

We value input from our members to this process. In particular we welcome comments on:

  • Funding models for aged care, including the MBS billing structure and funding models for services to aged care facilities
  • Providing person-centred aged care that meets the needs of rural people; their families and carers; and the community
  • Securing a skilled, sustainable and supported rural aged care workforce
  • Challenges and opportunities in rural and remote aged care
  • Technological, educational and professional support for doctors providing rural and remote aged care services
  • Challenges in providing culturally appropriate aged care
  • Any other key issues

Members are also welcome to provide input into the College Submission to the Royal Commission.

      The terms of reference include:

  • The quality of aged care services
  • How best to deliver aged care services to meet a range of needs, including people with disabilities and those with dementia
  • Challenges and opportunities for delivering accessible, affordable and high-quality aged care services in Australia, including in rural and remote Australia
  • How to strengthen aged care services
  • How to secure person-centred care and improve engagement with families and carers
  • Sustainable delivery and innovative models of care
  • Any other issues
