Telstra Health partnered with Goondir Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Corporations for Health Services (Goondir Health Services) to help support patients on their health journey using Telstra Health’s Virtual Health Monitoring solution.
Using Telstra Health’s Virtual Health Monitoring solution, clinicians and healthcare workers at Goondir Health Services have been able to virtually monitor the health of patients with chronic illnesses whilst patients remain in the comfort of their own homes.
CEO of Goondir Health Services, Floyd Leedie, said, “Goondir originally implemented the Virtual Health services because of COVID-19. With the restrictions put in place by the government, we found that our clients refused to come down to our clinics and a lot of the consults were done by telephone.
“Our clinicians had fears around giving good quality of care over the telephone. Therefore, it was to empower (our clinicians) to keep up the quality of care which empowered the patients to self-manage their own chronic conditions.”
Virtual Health Monitoring is provided through a secure digital health platform and enables clinicians to remotely monitor the health and wellbeing of their patients when they are connected to a mobile app via a compatible device. This typically includes monitoring of a patient’s pulse and oxygen saturation, temperature, blood glucose, weight and blood pressure.
Once the clinical data has been securely transmitted, any information regarding the patient’s conditions can be accessed by a clinician, enabling healthcare providers to quickly follow up with patients by a secure video call, direct to the patient’s compatible mobile device.
