Mental health: FPS CPD
Enabling Change : using practical psychological strategies to manage patients with anxiety, depression and somatisation disorder
In this highly interactive workshop, you will have the opportunity to practice skills in enabling change in your patients. Referring to and examining real cases of patients with depression, anxiety and somatisation, you will aim to evaluate a series of focussed psychological strategies applicable to implementing change in managing such patients in a busy rural practice setting.
The course references cases where lifestyle factors, poor medication compliance, interpersonal violence, low mood and avoidance are interfering with a patient’s mental health, and assess the challenges of applying management techniques in practice for such patients.
Through a series of small group discussions/learning, you will examine and focus on techniques to support these patients in adopting more healthy behaviours.
To maintain Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) registration, GPs need to complete a FPS CPD activity each triennium. GPs registered as a provider of FPS are eligible to access Medicare items numbers 2721-2727. More information on becoming a FPS provider can be found in Mental health education standards 2014-2016: A handbook for GPs.
