AST outside of training
Until recently, only medical practitioners enrolled in the College’s Vocational Training Program to Fellowship were entitled to train for an Advanced Specialised Training (AST).
In response to feedback, the College has developed a process where medical practitioners can apply to undertake AST outside of Fellowship training in the following disciplines:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
- Academic Practice
- Adult Internal Medicine
- Emergency Medicine
- Mental Health
- Population Health
- Remote Medicine, and
- Rural Generalist Surgery.
All AST's are 12 month training programs, except Rural Generalist Surgery, this is a 24 month training program. The AST curricula outlining the training and assessment requirements of each of these AST disciplines can be found here.
