Urology and urogynaecology services
MBS services pertaining to general urology, urological oncology (including treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia), endo-urology and renal stone disease, paediatric genitourinary and reconstructive urology, incontinence and urogynaecology will be changed.
This includes a requirement to use analgesia and/or anaesthesia for clinically relevant circumcision procedures to claim Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items 30654 and 30658. Medicare rebates will continue to be available for other circumcision MBS items 30649, 30663 and 30666.

Neurosurgery and neurology services
Changes will promote high-value use of electroencephalogram, nerve conduction studies, electromyography and central nervous system evoked responses. A new item will also be introduced to provide patient rebates for awake craniotomy.
A range of other changes will be made to simplify the MBS by consolidating neurosurgical services that are commonly done together into a single Medicare item. The patient rebate for a small number of complex brain surgery items will be increased to better reflect the complexity of the service.
