Application Process

The ACRRM Fellowship application and selection process provides four (4) intakes for the upcoming training year. This structure enables candidates to apply for a training position with ACRRM at any time.

Each intake feeds into one of two training commencement dates, which you can see in the Key Dates below.

  • Step 1
    Eligibility and Online Application
Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria for ACRRM Fellowship based on your citizenship or residency status; your Australian Medical Council (AMC) recognised medical qualification; and your medical registration from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra). If eligible, begin your application by providing your personal information and supporting documentation, including referee information.
  • Step 2
    Written Suitability Assessment
The suitability assessment requires you to answer five essay-style questions by stating how your interests and experience directly relate to the selection criteria. This is an important assessment piece which is graded and used to shortlist applicants for the final stage of the selection process, the Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs). It is important to note there is a minimum 250-word count for each question.
  • Step 3
    Multiple Mini Interviews
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to the Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) stage. MMI is behavioural-based assessment consisting of six short interviews in which you have two minutes to read a scenario and eight minutes to respond. Questions are designed to allow you to display your ability to think logically about a topic and communicate your response and ideas effectively. While details of the MMI questions will not be known to you until the day of the interview, you can prepare for MMIs by reading the selection criteria and relating your experiences to the key elements of the selection criteria.
  • Step 4
    Offers released
Candidates are notified of the outcome of their application via email and will be set up with ACRRM membership.
  • Step 5
    Training onboarding
At the conclusion of the selection process, registrars will be allocated a Training Officer and Medical Educator and will commence onboarding, including selecting your training posts, evaluating your prior learning and developing your training plan.

“ACRRM training really equips you to actually have well-rounded rural skills so you can jump straight in and work in the hospital. You can work in a general practice; you can work in other environments. You're not narrowed down to one line of work, and I think that's really the benefit of Rural Generalist training with ACRRM. You get to do so much, which brings you out the other end as a very well-rounded rural doctor.”
