The aim of the Rural and Remote Digital Innovation group (RRDIG) is to inform and assist in the dissemination of resources, guidelines, support tools, and outcomes of digital innovation projects in Australia that impact rural and remote communities.
RRDIG will also act as an advisor to the group’s members and the ACRRM Digital Health Committee, responding to technical, clinical or professional questions from practicing doctors and other health stakeholders.
RRDIG will support the implementation and meaningful use of digital health technologies, with an emphasis on improving access to health care in rural, remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the primary and secondary care continuum using telehealth.
The Rural and Remote Digital Innovation group is administered by ACRRM as part of its grant from the Rural Health Outreach Fund.
Originally established in 2011 this group was known as the ACRRM Telehealth Advisory Committee (ATHAC) with the aim to share information and ideas regarding clinician support to encourage telehealth to be incorporated in routine clinical practice for eligible patients.
ACRRM and other members of ATHAC were keen to maintain and expand this committee to support the implementation and meaningful use of digital health technologies, with an emphasis on improving access to health care in rural, remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the primary and secondary care continuum using telehealth.
In 2018 the group was renamed to the ‘Rural and Remote Digital Innovation group’ and will focus on technology and information management that is patient focused and supports care at a distance that includes comprehensiveness, coordination and continuity of care in rural and remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
