The below FAQs relate to the CPD Framework and the ACRRM CPD Program.

A CPD home is an organisation accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC), to provide a CPD program for medical practitioners. As a CPD Home ACRRM must:

  • provide infrastructure to house practitioners’ CPD program(s)
  • publish the detailed description of the requirements, content/activities and any fees associated with the provision of its CPD program(s)
  • quality assure the relevance and developmental value of CPD activities
  • provide advice and support to practitioners on CPD requirements and promote relevant activities
  • report to the Medical Board on compliance with CPD requirements
  • be accredited by the AMC and report on compliance with the accreditation criteria.

To fulfill the MBA’s CPD Registration Standard, all medical practitioners are now required to nominate and participate in a CPD Home unless formally exempt.  The process includes:

  • joining an AMC-accredited CPD Home before the commencement of their 2024 CPD activities
  • choosing a Home suitable for their scope of practice, which may be a College or non-College Home.
  • logging CPD activities within their CPD Home
  • declaring to Ahpra their CPD Home at 2024/25 registration renewal

More information about CPD homes is available here.

The revised CPD standard applies to all full time and part-time medical practitioners, except medical students, those practitioners with limited registrations in public interest or registration for a limited time.

CPD requirements have changed to an annual cycle and are no longer based on trienniums. A doctor must do a minimum of 50 hours CPD per year. There are three CPD categories with minimum requirements in each CPD category.

The three CPD categories are:

  • Educational Activities - activities that help gain knowledge or skills.
  • Performance Review - formal or informal activities that analyse and reflect on your performance.
  • Outcome Measurement – activities where you can measure an outcome.

Please refer to the College's CPD 2024 Framework for more information about CPD requirements.

We are not required to submit your CPD or Professional Development Plan to the board, but we are required to provide a list of CPD-compliant doctors to the Medical Board of Australia by 30th June after the end of each calendar year.

ACRRM is committed to support our members to meet their CPD requirements and a remediation period will be offered.

Yes minimum hours are required in each category:

  • 12.5 hours of educational activities
  • 25 hours combined in the performance review and outcome measurement categories, with a minimum of five hours in each category.
  • 12.5 hours made up from a choice in any of the three categories.

Total of 50 hours CPD per annum.

Yes! As a program level requirement, MOPS have different requirements depending on the area of specialty. These are available on the ACRRM website and can be found in the CPD Handbook/Guide (available in your CPD Portfolio in My College).

MOPS activities will contribute to CPD hours in the year they have been completed. By selecting MOPS, ACRRM will report on your behalf.

To see accredited ACRRM courses eligible for MOPS click here and refine the search by your MOPS category.

The Medical Board of Australia has updated the CPD Registration Standard requiring all medical practitioners to now engage in CPD activities specific to:
  • culturally safe practice
  • addressing health inequities
  • professionalism
  • ethical practice.
Each year you must complete one activity in your CPD that addresses each of these requirements, ensuring that they are relevant to your scope of practice. These are not additional, but need to be included as part of your required 50 hours of CPD.

Program-level requirements can be selected when submitting your CPD activities through your ACRRM CPD Home. Further information about these requirements can be found in the ACRRM CPD Handbook.

To find ACRRM CPD activities that contain relevant program-level content:

  • Go to the "Search accredited activity page."
  • Search for activities that address your specific program-level requirements. (For example, search for "Addressing Health Inequities")
  • Look for courses marked with a green tick. These courses have core content aligned with your program's needs.
Completion of one of these activities will automatically update your CPD Statement to reflect your completion of the relevant program-level requirement.
The CPD cycle is now annual and runs to a calendar year. You have until 31 December each year to complete your CPD.

All ACRRM members have access to CPD Home as a member benefit.  For non-members wanting to track their CPD only, ACRRM offers a CPD Home Essentials subscription.

As an ACRRM member, medical practitioners can plan their professional development, find clinically relevant educational events and record activities in an easy-to-use online portfolio. The ACRRM Member Engagement team is on hand to aid with the reporting of any MOPS requirements.

Undertaking ACRRM accredited CPD activities will automatically record CPD hours in individual portfolios. The ACRRM CPD Home also enables medical practitioners to self-upload and manage other CPD activities which have been completed.

The ACRRM CPD Home page has links to further resources such as the CPD Handbook (available on CPD Portfolio in My College). This handbook also contains information on MOPS requirements.

You can view a matrix showing a breakdown of activities and how you may tailor them to meet your CPD needs on our website. A link to the Medical Board of Australia’s CPD Standard and FAQs can be found here.
If you are unable to complete you CPD requirements, there is an option to complete an extension or exemption request. You will need to complete the appropriate form with the reasons for your request. These requests go to the ACRRM College Censor in chief and are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Yes, it is a requirement that all practitioners registered with Ahpra complete their CPD requirements. Please refer to the User Case Studies document for further information on how to complete your CPD requirements based on your individual scope of practice.
ACRRM Fellows are required to complete ALS2 every three years regardless of the validity of your ALS course. As ACRRM members primarily work in regional and remote areas, the college requires all Fellows, even those based in the city, to maintain their ALS skills should they return to rural/remote practice.
There are several online activities available on the ACRRM website to help you – see online education. You can also claim CPD for attending webinars and using ACRRM’s Connect program to engage in case-based discussions ( Connect@acrrm). There is also a suite of other resources and suggested informal activities under your CPD portfolio that you can do and self-record the hours.
You do not need to be vocationally registered or hold GP specialist registration with Ahpra in order to participate in the ACRRM CPD program. You are welcome to enrol in the CPD program at a fee. Joining ACRRM’s CPD program will help you keep track of your CPD activities, wherever you practice. Join here.

CPD is included in the membership fee for all ordinary members of ACRRM.
Please email pdp@acrrm.org.au with your provider number and details of the course you have completed. We can check and confirm the date we reported to Medicare on your behalf. Please note it can take a few weeks for Medicare to process applications. You will only need to be reported to the General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) once. You can find more info on MHST claims here.

At this stage ACRRM is working on developing a CPD App that meets all the requirements, but you can access a mobile-friendly version of you CPD home on your mobile devices.
All users of both CPD Home (ACRRM Members only) and CPD Home Essential access the full suite of online resources and tools through the self-managed CPD Home portal. Here, they can upload CPD documentation to their profile, view compliance against Ahpra requirements, generate CPD Portfolio Statements, access CPD guidelines, tracking templates, CPD Handbook and ACRRM's extensive suite of resources and select from a library of accredited CPD activities. Technical support and generalised advice are available to all CPD Home and CPD Home Essential users via email, online request or phone call.
Members of the ACRRM CPD program may apply to the ACRRM Censor for a full or partial exemption from CPD requirements if they have extenuating circumstances they wish to be considered.  Circumstances in which an exemption or extension may be requested include parental and other extended leave from practice, medical issues, cultural responsibility and compassionate grounds.

Exemption requests are to be made in writing, by completing and exemption/extension request form obtained via ACRRM CPD. This form will then be processed by the CPD team and submitted the Censor with a summary of your CPD activities. The team will provide further advise and support once your application is reviewed by the censor.

Please contact the CPD team at cpd@acrrm.org.au for more information.
If you are registered as a specialist, it is your responsibility to ensure you meet any high level requirements for your specialty/scope(s) of practice. To track compliance against these requirements in your ACRRM CPD Home you must first have registered your specialty/SoP with your ACRRM CPD Home. If you need help with this, reach out to your ACRRM CPD specialists via cpd@acrrm.org.au

Your CPD Home will then reflect your compliance against all the High-Level Requirements that you have nominated your CPD Home to track.
ACRRM will advise CPD Home users of any proposed changes to CPD Program requirements a minimum of 6 months in advance of implementation. These changes will be notified through the CPD Home platform and by email correspondence, CPD Newsletter and the Connect@ACRRM member forum.
