Becoming an accredited supervisor with ACRRM offers numerous benefits and opportunities to make a meaningful impact. Supervisors play a vital role in shaping the next generation of Rural Generalists by providing essential clinical and educational support. This role allows you to enhance your own skills through ongoing education, engage in rewarding mentoring relationships, and ensure a high standard of care in rural and remote communities.

Supervisors receive robust support and resources from ACRRM, ensuring they can effectively guide and develop registrars.

Doctors meeting the following criteria are eligible to be an ACRRM supervisor:

  • hold current medical registration with no conditions or limitations
  • are compliant with their College Professional Development Program
  • have rural experience
  • hold specialist qualifications relevant to the training post
    • Core Generalist Training:
      • primary care posts will be a Fellow of ACRRM or RACGP
      • secondary care posts will be a Fellow of ACRRM or RACGP or RACP
      • emergency posts will be a Fellow of ACRRM or RACGP or ACEM
    • Advanced Specialised Training supervisors
      • will be a Fellow of ACRRM or RACGP with expertise in the AST area or
      • a Fellow of a specialist College relevant to the AST

Doctors not meeting all these criteria may be eligible and are considered case by case.

Accreditation process

Supervisors are supported, performance monitored, and a reaccreditation review is undertaken every three years.

Supervisors that demonstrate meeting the Supervisor and Training Post Standards will be considered.

ACRRM Cultural Safety

The purpose of this course is to provide learners with introductory knowledge and insight to develop an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ beliefs, values, histories, cultures and experiences pre-colonisation to the present.

This course will consider the conceptual basis of being a supervisor before outlining the tasks that a supervisor has to undertake.

This introductory module will consider the conceptual basis of being a supervisor before outlining the tasks that a supervisor has to undertake.

Foundations of Rural Generalist Supervision: Supervision Placement

In this module, we will be preparing you for the planned teaching that supervisors are expected to provide during set-aside, one-on-one teaching sessions.

Foundations of Rural Generalist Supervision: Consultation Observation and Feedback

Although clinical knowledge and skills, particularly examination skills, are also assessed and taught during consultation observation, the focus of this course will be on the use of consultation observation to observe / assess / provide feedback on communication and consultation skills.
