To be eligible to work as a doctor in Australia you will need to fulfil the requirements for registration to practise with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA).
The MBA has specific requirements for different types of registration:
The Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) supports the MBA to manage registration and renewal processes for local and overseas-qualified medical practitioners.
International medical graduates will initially need to apply for either Limited or Provisional registration and then fulfil the requirements of one of the pathways to General and/or Specialist registration. It's important to understand the requirements of each pathway and what type of registration it will lead to. AHPRA have developed an initial self-assessment guide to help you decide which pathway is most appropriate to you.
If you are a doctor who wishes to become registered in Australia you will need to fulfil the requirements of one of the registration pathways, coordinated by the Australian Medical Council (AMC).
