Dr Michael Beckoff was educated in Adelaide, South Australia, graduating from Adelaide University in 1975. Following post graduate experience at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Repatriation Hospital, he joined Bridge Clinic in Murray Bridge in South Australia and remained an equity partner there from 1977 until 2010. In 2005, Bridge Clinic was honoured as the ‘RACGP Practice of the year’ in Australia.
Since 2011, Dr Beckoff has provided locum support across rural and remote areas of South Australia and Australia and is best described as a ‘Rural Generalist’, providing services in GP Medicine and Surgery, Emergency Medicine and Advanced Obstetrics, with special interests and expertise in Mental Health and Sexual Therapy.
Since 2003, Dr Beckoff has provided health corporate services across many domains and sectors. His current positions include; Board Director HealthDirect Australia (Chair of Clinical Governance Committee), Board Director ACRRM (Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine), Chair of the board RDWA (Rural Doctor’s Workforce Agency), SA MET (Medical Education and Training) Committee, Clinical Adviser (Safety and Quality, Adverse Events, Drugs and Therapeutics, Deteriorating Patient , CHSA LHN (Country Health SA Local Hospital Network), Clinical Adviser GPEx (General Practice Training in SA) and SA Country PHN Clinical Governance Council. He has been Chair of the board of the MMGPN (Murray Mallee GP Network) since 2005 and was Chair of the board of GPSA (General Practice SA) from 2005 until 2010. He was an inaugural member of the SA Health Performance Council and served on that council from 2008 until 2014.
Dr Beckoff also provides consultancy services to primary and secondary healthcare, including practice management and has contributed to research, education, training and facilitation in General Practice. His expertise extends to health planning, policy, strategy and performance, as well as clinical and corporate governance.
Since 2012, Dr Beckoff has been involved in travel medicine and has travelled regularly across the world as a tour doctor, providing medical advice and support to large and small groups in various countries and on cruises. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling independently, often managing to play golf on some of the world’s best courses and enjoying wine and food opportunities from different countries around the world.
