About Dr Patricia Murphy

Dr Patricia (Trish) is an Arrente and Kujani woman from the central desert regions of Central Australia and Central South Australia.

Trish is very passionate about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. She has lived in many rural and remote parts of New South Wales, South Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland (Millfield NSW, Mackay QLD, Oodnadatta SA, Port Augusta SA, Mount Isa QLD, Normanton QLD) and has seen first hand the deficit in health care and through this lens has advocated for her patients and communities.

Her work prior to medicine involved being a carer, fast food worker, working in a domestic violence shelter and she has taken this with her through medicine and into practice where she has worked with Allied Health and supported other carers, and she has interests in sexual health and domestic and family violence and patient care because of this; which is reflected in her practice.

She is currently a registrar and is one of three Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Doctors working on Palm Island in Queensland and is currently completing her AST in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health.

Trish is the new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Group representative and is looking forward to working with the Council in this regard.
