About Dr David Rimmer

David has 45 years of medical practice, with general practice, emergency medicine and medical administration experience, combined with a lifetime interest in teaching and workforce development. His current role as the Director of Clinical Training for Central West HHS has oversight of medical student, junior doctor, GP registrar and early career Fellow training. David maintains a clinical role as SMO / GP with an additional skill in emergency medicine. He has 17 years' experience as a private GP in Toowoomba as well as 14 years of private emergency department work and five years with RFDS.

David’s previous role as the first Executive Director of Medical Services for Central West HHS developed his experience in managing medical services, medical staff, clinical governance, workforce development and system design.  A highlight of the HHS achievements during his tenure was embedding the Single Practice Model for medical staffing in Central West, and consolidation of the role of the education pipeline as a cornerstone of medical staff recruitment and retention in remote Queensland.  This position also provided insight into the issues facing a complex system with representation of remote Qld as a member of the Qld Clinical Senate Executive, the Qld Rural and Remote Health Advisory Committee, and the System ICT Advisory Committee.

David is an adjunct Associate Professor, Murtupuni Centre for Rural and Remote Health within James Cook University and the Chair of the Strategic Leadership Council of JCU GP training.
