This is the first year that the selection process for the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Program will be college-led, with candidates now able to apply to their preferred training college.

Doctors from their intern year onwards can apply, and ACRRM President, Associate Professor Ruth Stewart, is keen to stress that there will be plenty of support for every applicant throughout the process.

“We understand applicants may require assistance with a new process, so ACRRM has developed clear selection guidelines, and individual support is available for every college applicant at each step of the process.” said Ruth.

“The College has produced an Application Guide which is available online for prospective candidates, and ACRRM staff are contactable via phone and email for information and assistance.”

ACRRM selection into the program is aimed at students with a genuine interest in rural and remote general practice medicine. It is a merit-based process which aims to ensure that selected candidates have the best chance of success in the Program.

Successful completion of the four-year AGPT Program qualifies a doctor as a specialist general practitioner and confers a Fellowship of ACRRM. A FACRRM offers the fulfilment of providing medical care to rural and remote communities whilst training, and a flexible range of career opportunities throughout your working life.

Interested applicants will find detailed information on the eligibility criteria, submission requirements and training pathways for the four-year program on the ACRRM website.
