The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) supports the bill introduced in Parliament on Monday calling for urgent medical treatment for children and adults living on Manus and Nauru.

The bill, presented by Professor Kerryn Phelps, is in line with ACRRM’s commitment to support the mental and physical health, safety and wellbeing of asylum seekers.

ACRRM President Dr Ewen McPhee says: “As rural and remote doctors, ACRRM members are conscious of the importance of access to quality health care, and Australia is a nation with prides itself on providing the highest standards of medical services.

"We should be extending this to these children and their families on Nauru and Manus Islands."
