Fellows of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine have been recognised for their contributions to medical education, rural general practice and community in the Australia Day 2019 Honors list.

“We are very proud of the dedication our members have to their profession and to rural and remote communities,” President Dr Ewen McPhee says.

“And, we are obviously thrilled to see Fellows recognised for their dedication in this year’s prestigious Australia Day Awards. “They demonstrate a strong commitment to not only their own vocation, but to mentoring and supporting their colleagues, students and the people who rely on their skills.”

The following Fellows were recognised in the Honours list of the Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia in the General Division:

  • Dr Adrian Allen, Walcha, NSW, for service to medicine, and the community of Walcha.
  • Dr Peter Ian Davidson, Cowra, NSW, for service to medicine as a general practitioner.
  • Dr Stanley John Menzies, Camperdown, VIC, for service to the communities of South West Victoria. Dr Menzies is a recipient of the College’s 2013 Peter Graham ‘Cohuna’ Award for outstanding advocacy and medical service to his community, ensuring the maintenance of the highest quality of generalist skills including procedural practice.

Professor Sarah Strasser received the Member (AM) in the General Division for significant service to medical education, particularly rural general practice. Professor Strasser is the inaugural medical advisor at ACRRM.

 “The College extends congratulations to these fine rural generalist ambassadors,” Dr McPhee says.
