The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) has welcomed the announcement by The Hon Greg Hunt MP for ACRRM to be the lead general practice training organisation responsible for the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) pathway from January 2022.
Hon Greg Hunt said: “The Commonwealth Government is in negotiation with the RACGP and ACRRM to assume delivery of general practice training, encompassing AGPT from January 2022. A transitional period (January 2019 – December 2021) is proposed to ensure a seamless continuation of the program”.
ACRRM President Associate Professor Ruth Stewart said: “this is an important move towards the training of rural and remote general practitioners in Australia. ACRRM is supportive of this announcement and the associated timeframe.
“The transition period will give the opportunity for ACRRM to engage with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth handover of the AGPT pathway.
“ACRRM will remain consistent with other specialist medical colleges and continue to provide exceptional support and delivery in specialised general practice training encompassing the AGPT pathway for rural and remote doctors.”
ACRRM has been providing high quality general practice training for over a decade and is excited and confident in taking full responsibility for the AGPT pathway.
