The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) has received full national Australian Medical Council (AMC) accreditation for the College’s Fellowship programs for the next six years.
ACRRM President Dr Sarah Chalmers says this accreditation through to March 2028 highlights the confidence the AMC has in the College’s work to train and support Rural Generalists (RGs) to provide communities with high quality, locally-based healthcare.
“ACRRM is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and this accreditation will take us through to our fourth decade as the only College focused on training doctors to undertake a career in Rural Generalist (RG) medicine,” Dr Chalmers says.
“ACRRM is thrilled to receive such a strong vote of confidence in our Fellowship programs and the people and systems that support them.
“This is in no small part due to the calibre and dedication of the more than 200 registrars, supervisors and other training supporters, College leaders and staff who provided input to achieve this historic accreditation.
“I would like to thank each of them for their invaluable insight and contribution. I couldn’t be prouder.”
Based on the AMC accreditation, the MBA has reaffirmed that ACRRM Fellowship programs will continue to provide qualification for the purposes of registration as specialist General Practitioners until 31 March 2028.
The accreditation includes a significant range of commendations for the College around its commitment to strong stakeholder relationships to support rural workforce development, to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ health, and its flexibility and capacity to pivot during the COVID-19 pandemic to enable continuity of its training, education, and compulsory professional development programs.
The College extends its thanks to the AMC and the Medical Board for their collegiality and professionalism throughout the accreditation process.
