Today, Tasmanian AGPT registrars, supervisors and training posts contracted with General Practice Training Tasmania (GPTT) officially transition to College-led Training with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).

ACRRM CEO Marita Cowie says positive and strong collaboration between the two organisations has ensured the transition was a smooth process.

"We thank GPTT for their commitment to ensuring the success of this early transition and we commend them for their work training ACRRM Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) registrars and supporting supervisors and training posts in their region over many years.

“We are excited to welcome Tasmanian AGPT registrars, supervisors and training posts to our ACRRM Fellowship Program, and to providing them with the resources and supports they need to undertake their important work of providing high quality healthcare to communities outside the urban footprint," Ms Cowie says.

GPTT CEO Judy Dew agrees the handover has been a positive experience due to the ongoing collaborative spirit GPTT and ACRRM has undertaken. "Together, we have worked through complex issues to ensure registrars have an uninterrupted training experience,” Ms Dew says.

“It has been a privilege to train ACRRM registrars and to see them through their early careers and beyond. “They are fully committed to the rural and remote communities they serve throughout our state.

“It has also been rewarding seeing them go on to be leaders in their profession, mentoring the next generation of Rural Generalists.

"We wish them well in their future training with ACRRM.”

Ms Cowie adds that this is another milestone day for ACRRM.

“With the early transfer of New South Wales and ACT AGPT registrars to the College in August, and today’s transition in Tasmania, we are now directly training more than half the ACRRM AGPT registrars in Australia.

“This is well before the formal transition date and puts us in a positive position when we welcome AGPT registrars from remaining regions in February 2023”.
