The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) 2024 Excellence Awards are now open for nominations, with a revitalised program designed to honour a wider array of exceptional contributions across rural, remote and First Nations communities.

ACRRM President Dr Dan Halliday says the College awards program celebrates the skills, professionalism, and dedication of incredible Rural Generalists (RGs) and healthcare providers who have a positive impact on the healthcare of those most at need.

“This year, we have expanded the awards to specifically recognise RGs who are addressing the unique healthcare needs of diverse communities across Australian states and territories.

“We have also introduced new awards to applaud outstanding practices, researchers, and RGs who are making a significant impact in supporting First Nations communities,” Dr Halliday adds.

New state-based categories in the annual awards program include:

  • Medical student of the year
  • Registrar of the year
  • Rural Generalist of the year
  • Rural Practice Excellence Award
  • Rural Generalist Medical Education Award.
  • State winners will be eligible for national recognition.

National ACRRM awards, include:

  • Outstanding contribution to First Nations healthcare
  • Rural Health Research Award
  • Honorary Life Fellowship
  • Honorary Fellowship
  • Honorary Membership
  • Distinguished Service Award.

State awards will be announced in August, and national awards will be presented at the RMA Conference Awards Dinner in Garramilla (Darwin, NT) in October.

"Our awards program is a testament to the outstanding dedication of ACRRM Rural Generalists and the support teams who work with them,” Dr Halliday says.

“It is important to recognise and celebrate their unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare.

“Their dedication inspires us all and sets the standard for excellence in rural medicine.

“If you know someone who deserves to be recognised for their contribution, make sure to nominate today.”
