Dr Angela Stratton is honoured with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine’s (ACRRM) prestigious 2024 Rural Generalist of the Year Award.
This esteemed accolade shines a spotlight on Rural Generalists who deliver exceptional healthcare and provide unwavering leadership in rural, remote and First Nations communities across Australia.
Dr Stratton has been recognised for her relentless dedication to enhancing rural healthcare, her innovative solutions to challenges in rural and remote service delivery, and her deep commitment to the wellbeing of the communities she serves.
Based in Mount Beauty, Victoria, Dr Stratton provides a comprehensive range of care, from antenatal services to emergency cover and primary healthcare.
Her advocacy for rural generalism is equally impressive - championing the profession while dedicating time to nurture the next generation of healthcare leaders as a medical educator and ACRRM Fellowship supervisor.
As the inaugural Regional Director of Training in Victoria, Dr Stratton played a pivotal role in establishing ACRRM's regional training network during the transition to ACRRM-led training in the state.
ACRRM President Dr Rod Martin praises Dr Stratton's contributions, saying, "Dr Stratton is the embodiment of rural generalism, consistently going above and beyond to provide top-tier, comprehensive healthcare.
“Her dedication to those communities, coupled with her commitment to supporting future Rural Generalists, is truly inspiring."
Dr Martin adds: “This award recognises Dr Stratton’s significant impact, and underscores the critical importance of rural generalism in maintaining the health and wellbeing of rural, remote, and First Nations communities.”
Each year, ACRRM honours individuals who make an indelible mark on rural, remote and First Nations healthcare. The Rural Generalist of the Year Award reinforces the College’s dedication to celebrating leaders who provide critical services where they are most needed.
