The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) is excited to award Rochelle Cabry the 2024 Medical Student of the Year.

Rochelle has been recognised for her exceptional commitment to rural healthcare, leadership potential, academic excellence, and community involvement.

ACRRM President Dr Rod Martin commends Rochelle for her achievements, describing her as a shining example of the future of rural generalism in Australia.

"Rochelle demonstrates a remarkable passion for healthcare and is committed to making a positive impact in rural, remote, and First Nations communities,” Dr Martin says.

“Her enthusiasm for learning and dedication to communities sets her apart as a future leader in rural generalism and aligns with the colleges purpose which is to foster the next generation of rural healthcare professionals.”

Rochelle has been actively engaged in the Northern Territory’s rural health university club, and Students Association for Rural and Remote Health (StARRH), serving as President in 2023, Doctor of Medicine representative in 2022, and am now the Nhulunbuy representative.

In response to receiving the award, Rochelle says: "I am deeply honoured to receive the Medical Student of the Year Award from ACRRM.

“Growing up in Katherine, 300km south of Darwin, I am driven to give back to the community that raised and shaped me into who I am today.

“I am eager to commence the ACRRM pathway upon graduating, specifically with an Advanced Specialised Training in obstetrics.

“I am committed to progressing rural and remote healthcare and am honoured to receive the 2024 ACRRM Medical Student of the Year award.

Dr Rod Martin says the calibre of medical students coming through the ACRRM Fellowship program has been outstanding.

“I commend her Rochelle on receiving this award and look forward to supporting her as she continues her journey towards a career in rural generalism,” he says. As part of her award, Rochelle was provided registration to the Rural Medicine Australia (RMA24) conference, being held in Garramilla (Darwin) from 23 – 26 October.
