From now until 30 June 2019, patients in Queensland flood affected areas can access Medicare rebated video consultations with a GP or non-specialist medical practitioner. These time limited item numbers are designed to give patients in flood affected areas of Queensland greater access to GP services.

Patients in the following areas will be eligible for the new item numbers:

  • Burdekin
  • Cloncurry
  • Douglas
  • Winton
  • Burke
  • Cook
  • Flinders
  • Wujal Wujal
  • Charters Towers
  • Doomadgee
  • McKinlay
  • Palm Island
  • Richmond
  • Townsville

ACRRM President Dr Ewen McPhee says, “Properly designed telehealth services are a vital tool in getting quality medical counselling and advice to people in isolated areas and this announcement comes at a critical time for North Queensland families impacted by floods.”

For GPs the item numbers are 2095, 2144, 2180 and 2193, and for non-specialist medical practitioners the numbers are 899, 901, 905 and 906. The new Medicare items are the same as the current standard GP consultation and will attract the same Medicare fees and rebates.
