Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS) reform means non-vocationally registered (non-VR) GPs will need to be on a Fellowship pathway to maintain 100% A1 Medicare billing. ACRRM can endorse your Medicare Provider Number (MPN) while you progress towards Fellowship. Best yet, non-VR GPs can receive $15,000 of Commonwealth support towards the Independent Pathway education fees. It can take up to 10 weeks to renew your MPN, so it is important to get in early. Read more to discover what is involved in renewing your MPN.
MBS renewal process once successfully selected and training in an approved placement:
1. Your dedicated training officer will provide you with an ACRRM MPN application form
2. Return your completed MPN application to training@acrrm.org.au
3. If you are applying for 19AB Exemption, Medicare also requires proof of identity and a letter of support from your employer
4. ACRRM formalises approval and submits to Department of Human Services (DHS)
5. DHS completes assessment against the MBS eligibility requirements of sections 19AA and 19AB of the Health Insurance Act (HIA)
6. Registrars check status of application directly with DHS
If your MPN is due to expire in the next three to six months, apply now for the October cohort of Independent Pathway to ensure your MPN is renewed on time.
Submissions for the April 2020 intake of Independent Pathway are due on Monday 23 December 2019. Visit the ACRRM website to apply or express interest today.
