Highlight news

This week 86 enthusiastic Independent Pathway registrars attended their week-long education workshop, which was held online for the first-time. Over the duration of the week, registrars were engaged in various sessions relevant to the Rural Generalist curriculum including acute rheumatic fever, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, Cultural safety, Communication and consultation skills, Diabetes, Mental health, Men's health, Dermatology, ENT emergencies and many more.

The content was delivered in a variety of formats which included live online group sessions, small group break-out sessions as well as online self-directed learning. There were virtual practical sessions which include diabetes case discussions, newborn examinations, cervical screening, and Implanon training.

ACRRM Medical Educator Dr Carmon Guy (FACRRM) has been the clinical lead for the workshop, and has been assisted by a team of ACRRM Medical Educators, external presenters and the ACRRM Education Development team to bring the workshop to life. Dr Guy described the online workshop as "a fantastic learning opportunity for Registrars. The rapid shift to an online format demonstrates the College's commitment to meeting the training needs of our registrars especially at a time when many of our Registrars weren't able to attend a face-to-face workshop due to travel restrictions."

Even with the online format there were plenty of opportunities for the Registrars to engage with their peers and meet with their ACRRM Training Officers. One of the highlights of the workshop is the opportunity to listen to the Registrars present their own stories to the group - and this week has been no exception - the diverse stories about each Registrar's journey to ACRRM training is unique and inspirational.

Feedback from the workshop has been very positive with many positive comments including - 'this is the best conference ever - especially during COVID lockdown!"
