At Telstra Health we have a substantial presence supporting rural and remote patients, healthcare providers and governments with digital solutions to help support the delivery of health and aged care.
It is an unfortunate reality that Australians living in rural and remote areas have a higher likelihood of poorer health outcomes compared to those living in metropolitan areas. Difficulty in accessing services is part of the problem, with those living in the bush needing to travel much further to access healthcare.
Telstra Health’s Specialist Telehealth: Mackay Base Hospital and Health Services
Telstra Health aims to assist in making healthcare easier to access for rural and remote Australians. One of the ways we are helping do this is by providing telehealth services. Mackay Base Hospital and Health Services (MHHS) is using Telstra Health’s Specialist Telehealth to improve access to specialist care for rural and regional patients.
Specialist Telehealth has helped MHHS to improve management of its waitlist numbers and clinical specialist resourcing. “Telehealth services were well established here already but we had some issues with servicing demands for outpatient services, so we started to investigate other telehealth options to augment our capacity,” explains Cathie Le Riviere, Manager of Virtual Health for MHHS.
“We’re well established with telehealth and good at using the technology but using the Telstra Health arrangement we can also dial into a concierge service. The concierge links us to the specialist, who may be anywhere in Australia. It’s simple and it’s coordinated on our behalf,” says Riviere.
Rural and Remote Healthcare Solutions
At Telstra Health we believe all Australians deserve access to high-quality healthcare regardless of their location. From small remote communities to large regional hospitals, we help assist clinicians and healthcare providers to support patients in their own homes.
Our solutions include remote monitoring, video conferencing, and messaging systems, helping to reduce the amount of time spent travelling long distances to receive healthcare while helping to empower patients to manage their own health and wellbeing.
