The College has been invited to provide its feedback to the Department of Health (Department) on its Discussion Paper outlining a range of proposed reform opportunities for general practice training employment arrangements. The GPRA have also provided a Statement on these issues.

The Department’s Paper recognises that recent interest in GP training is in decline. The paper cites a range of probably factors contributing to this decline and explores potential employment models for trainees that may address these and encourage stronger enrolments.

Our College will highlight that the decline is strongly skewed toward rural and remote enrolments and will be recommending that any changes are designed to incentivize and improve support for all rural and remote general practice and rural generalist doctors at all stages of their career.

We welcome member feedback across all these issues to incorporate into our advice to the Department.

You can do this by completing a short 5-question survey. Alternatively, you may prefer to email your comments to our staff directly or to contact us for further information or queries. Please direct these to Mary Jane Streeton at policy@acrrm.org.au.

Please provide your feedback by Monday 30 November 2020.
