When the online COVID-19 vaccination booking system was launched in March to support the nation’s vaccine rollout, confusion about where and how eligible patients could book their COVID-19 vaccination meant clinics and practices were inundated with callers trying to make an appointment.
Healthdirect said that teething issues related to the booking process appear to have mostly eased, with the Vaccine Clinic Finder now providing a national comparison of participating Primary Care vaccination clinics and pharmacies across Australia, where patients can check availability and make a booking.
To further improve the quality and completeness of vaccine clinic and appointment data in the Vaccine Clinic Finder, Healthdirect Australia is working alongside ACRRM and other peak bodies, healthcare organisations and the Department of Health to provide seamless online booking integration.
Vaccine supplies are set to increase nationwide to meet rising cases and hit coverage targets, while expanded vaccine eligibility and a drop in the interval between Pfizer doses in Victoria mean the speed of the rollout is likely to further increase.
The new online booking integration is expected to support participating vaccine providers by ensuring patients can easily book vaccinations online, improving the overall experience.
The Vaccine Clinic Finder has had over 17 million visitors since March and over 12.5 million click throughs from consumers to make an online booking.
Vaccine Clinic Finder enhancements
Recent updates to the Vaccine Clinic Finder include the reinstating of 16 languages in the upfront questionnaire, making it more accessible.
Another key update, benefiting both clinics and consumers, is the listing of the next available appointment on clinic search results, which is already driving an uplift in vaccine appointment bookings.
Further information about the new Vaccine Clinic Finder Connect will be available at the College webinar on Tues 9 Nov. Register here.
