I write to keep you abreast of the developments related to the proposed membership change of GP Synergy from 25 members to a single member organisation, being the RACGP.

As you are aware, ACRRM has serious concerns with respect to the transparency and implications of the partnership between GP Synergy and RACGP.

ACRRM takes its obligations to consider all aspects of this proposal very seriously, particularly the impacts potential changes could have on our current registrars, members, and stakeholders and, for clarity and transparency, we called for further information. Both parties have responded to ACRRM in writing, however, the information provided does not address the details requested that would allow for due diligence to occur.

We acknowledge the significant challenges the RACGP face, as they have declared, in being ready for College-led training. If they have not yet established operational mechanisms to deliver their training program, there is a substantial risk to the stability of GP training for their registrars, not only in NSW, but nationally.

ACRRM is not seeking to unreasonably withhold support for a potential solution to the quandary RACGP finds itself in at this juncture, however our responsibility first and foremost is to ACRRM registrars, supervisors, and stakeholders and we will not support solutions at their expense.

We have valid cause for concern around the following areas that have not been adequately addressed to date:

  • ACRRM registrar training plans and support
  • Current and potential ACRRM supervisors and training practices
  • Retention of registrars' post GP Fellowship
  • 2023 recruitment for ACRRM
  • Accreditation of GP Synergy

These concerns, and others related to the process, are explained in more detail here.

ACRRM has called for the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to be delayed from 22 December 2021 to allow for further opportunities to seek and consider additional material, legal advice, and consultation. To date, this request has been denied.

Our members voices are particularly important on this matter, and we are absolutely committed to ensuring that training is not interrupted and continues to be managed appropriately.

I encourage you to reach out with any concerns you may have. This can be done through the Registrar Committee, the CEO, your Council member, or directly to myself. The contact details for each of these are listed below.
