The National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce has released a communique which includes New long COVID FAQs to support clinicians caring for the growing number of Australians experiencing post-COVID symptoms.
The clinical scope of the Taskforce is currently focused on the care and management of people with COVID-19 however some evidence is emerging regarding potential sequelae in neonates born to mothers with SARS-CoV-2 infection (e.g. developmental, neurological etc).
Although the evidence at this point tends to be low quality, the Taskforce has extended the scope of the guidelines to include care for infants born to mothers with SARS-CoV-2 infection during their pregnancy.
It is hoped that this type of information may assist healthcare professionals with early identification and management of SARS-CoV-2 related sequelae in infants who have not necessarily had a SARS-CoV-2 infection themselves but have been potentially impacted by indirect effects of the virus during gestation.
The Taskforce continues to review and update its Clinical Flowcharts and review evidence to develop recommendations to guide practice in a range of new areas, including care of people with post-COVID.
