The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine welcomes the Tasmanian Department of Health’s Decision to not pursue regulation of skin cancer services in Tasmania. 

The Tasmanian Department of Health had commenced a project to determine whether skin cancer clinics should be licensed. 

ACRRM, along with the RACGP, AMA Tasmania and Skin Cancer College, submitted a joint letter to the Department requesting further consideration. 

College President Dr Dan Halliday says the Department has made the right decision. 

“The move to regulate skin cancer clinics in Tasmania was not in the interest of the Rural Generalists, specialist rural General Practitioners, or the community,” Dr Halliday says. 

“The Joint letter ACRRM signed was requesting the opportunity to improve our understanding of the specific areas of concern held by the department and review evidence of patient harms.  

“The Department says it will continue to work to ensure its regulatory processes support the national surgery reforms. 

“I thank everyone for their commitment to working towards this positive outcome.”
