Improvements have recently been made to the Government of South Australia’s Advance Care Directive legislation and materials. These build on consultation with the public, key legal, aged care, local government and community stakeholders and the health sector through several consultation processes during 2021-2023. The redesigned Advance Care Directive Kit has a contemporary look and feel and is easier to understand and complete.

Please note that existing completed Advance Care Directive forms remain legally valid and there is no requirement to update them using the redesigned form. People who have started an Advance Care Directive using the previous form but not yet completed it can still complete the previous form, or they can choose to use the new form. Plans are under way for a public launch of the redesigned materials during National Advance Care Planning Week 18-24 March 2024 to ensure broad community awareness. There will be as broad range of communications collateral to spread the word. Practitioners can also download, print and order more professionally printed resources directly from the website.

Professionally printed Advance Care Directive Kits are also now available for free at select libraries across South Australia as well as Service SA locations, or they can be downloaded and printed from the website.
