General practitioners and specialists that have previously received a payment for submitting a Program form to the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program have been sent a letter about the conclusion of information payments in 2020.

The conclusion of information payments will follow the transition of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Register to the National Cancer Screening Register and the introduction of new register functionality. These new functions include a Healthcare Provider Portal and software integration, scheduled for release from March 2020, that will enable more efficient administrative processes for the submission of patient progress information to the National Register.

Previously, Program form payments were administered by the Department of Human Services through the National Bowel Cancer Screening Register. From November 2019 this payment capability will not be available. The Department of Health expects to make a once off lump sum payment to healthcare providers who continue to submit Program forms from November 2019, including the GP Assessment Report, Colonoscopy and Histopathology Report, Procedure Report - Adverse Outcomes, and/or Histopathology Report program form, until the introduction of the Healthcare Provider Portal and software integration.

A new method for collecting payment account details will be established and made available to healthcare providers. This will enable healthcare providers to nominate a bank account in order to receive payments for the submission of the specified information provided to the National Register via the other Program forms.
