From January a 2021, the Australian Government will prohibit the importation of e-cigarettes containing vaporiser nicotine and nicotine-containing refills unless on prescription from a doctor1. E-cigarettes containing vaporised nicotine and nicotine containing refills for use in e-cigarettes to help a person quit smoking will be available if prescribed by an Australian registered authorised doctor.

Cancer Australia has been invited by the Department of Health to develop communication collateral and educational material to support General Practitioners (GP) understand and implement the changes to prescribing and accessing e-cigarettes containing vaporised nicotine.

ACRRM has been invited to provide input into communication of the proposed reforms, and educational activities to support understanding of the changes to prescribing and accessing e-cigarettes containing vaporised nicotine to GPs.  This consultation would take the form of a meeting at a mutually convenient time before 11 September.

If you are interested in participating on a voluntary basis, please contact Jenny Johnson (j.johnson@acrrm.org.au) as soon as possible and no later than Wednesday 2 September.
