Dr Adrian Griscti, ACRRM Fellow, proud rural GP for over 35 years, and South Australian Ambassador for health-promotion charity Doctors For Nutrition, is passionate about the role of whole food plant-based nutrition in disease prevention and care.
“Professionally, I love the ripple effect of eating a nutrient dense, plant-based diet - patients and colleagues see how I eat and know how I feel - I just follow the evidence and coach them to do the same with similar results. Nutrition is not about just getting good numbers, it’s about dealing with the root cause of many diseases and saving lives," says Dr Griscti.
“For instance, it is well documented that diet plays a significant role in the development of colorectal cancer. Bowel cancer claims the lives of 5,336 Australians every year, that’s 103 a week! There is support we can offer our patients to see these numbers reduced, it is critical we’re up-to-date with the evidence...particularly in a rural setting as cancer survival rates are poorer.
“That’s why I encourage everyone to join the upcoming Doctors For Nutrition ACRRM accredited, free ‘Food Vitals’ webinar on 30 June,” Dr Griscti said.
UK-based consultant gastroenterologist, Dr Alan Desmond will be presenting on the topic ‘Nutrition, the gut microbiome and bowel cancer: what should we tell our patients?’. Participants will come away with an understanding of the evidence of how nutrition can optimise gut health and reduce risk of colorectal cancer. Attendees will also gain tools and confidence for incorporating nutrition in everyday practice.
The host of the webinar, Doctors For Nutrition, are working to bring a 'nutrition-first' approach to mainstream medicine in our region via educational programs, resources and advocacy. More information is available on their website.
