The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has advised of an update to the list of medicines that can be accessed under the Authorised Prescriber ‘Established history of use’ pathway. A printable version is available on the website at list of medicines with an established history of use.
Please note that the Aciclovir eye ointment is now included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).Therefore, an Authorised Prescriber approval is no longer required to access this product.
Medicines included in the ‘Established History of Use’ list do not require medical practitioners to obtain a Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) approval or specialist college endorsement to become an Authorised Prescriber. Our website includes the list of medicines with an established history of use which are specified in subregulation 12B(1B) of the Therapeutic Goods Regulations 1990.
Further details on applying for approval/endorsement are available in the guidance document Authorised Prescriber Scheme - Guidance for Medical Practitioners, Human Research Ethics Committees, Specialist Colleges and Sponsors.
Information and access to the SAS & Authorised Prescriber Online System to submit applications is available on our Authorised Prescribers webpage.
