The Australian Government has updated the criteria for access to PPE for general practices supporting COVID-positive patients. In addition to the current arrangements, eligibility for PPE bundles has been expanded to additional settings.
Priority will be given to deploying requisite PPE and pulse oximeters to PHNs for distribution to outbreak regions and where GPs, ACCHSs and GPRCs have indicated their willingness to manage COVID-19 positive patients face-to-face. Rural and remote ACCHSs and GPs willing to treat COVID-positive patients virtually and respiratory patients face-to-face, where workforce capacity is limited and the GP is serving the community for most or all health needs, will also be eligible.
In addition, P2/N95 respirators and eye protection will be provided to all GPs and GPRCs willing to support COVID positive people virtually, and respiratory patients face-to-face, until 31 March 2022.
