All organisations using Medicare Online (including AIR and DVA), PBS Online, Aged Care Online and Eclipse (hospital claiming) will need to update their software to web services before 13 March 2022. You may also need to register your organisation with PRODA.  PRODA is replacing PKI site certificates for payments and claiming. 

Organisations using the Healthcare Identifiers (HI) service, Prescription Exchange and Secure Messaging are urged to renew their PKI certificate now, even if their current certificate is yet to expire.

What do healthcare locations need to do? 

1. Users of Medicare Online, ECLIPSE and Aged Care Online 

If you have not heard from your developer, you should contact them now to confirm:

  • when your web services compatible software will be available, and
  • whether your location needs to register as an organisation in PRODA. If you need to register you should do so now, you don’t need to wait until you get your software upgrade. 

2. Users of PBS Online 

Developers of PBS Online software will be contacting their customers (including pharmacies, dispensing doctors and hospitals) when more information is available. 

Is all of this news to you? If the answer is yes, call your software developer asap. 

3. Renewing PKI certificates 

To ensure business continuity, Services Australia will be renewing all SHA-1 Medicare and PBS PKI certificates. PKI certificates can be used for purposes other than digital claiming or transmitting data to the agency, including:

  • access to the Healthcare Identifiers (HI) Service 
  • Prescription Exchange 
  • Secure Messaging 

Healthcare locations must install their renewed PKI site certificate, even if:

  • the current certificate is yet to expire
  • your location has transitioned to PRODA to authenticate for new web services-compatible software.

What if I am worried that my location may not be ready before the March deadline? 

Services Australia is working with industry to mitigate risks associated with healthcare locations reverting to older, inefficient processes should their developer not transition them to web services by 13 March 2022.
