The Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care is conducting a review and developing proof of concepts to improve the way diagnostic imaging is conducted in Australia. The College Digital Health team has been involved in this project since October 2021 providing member input into the challenges within rural and remote Australia. One of the areas for review is the use of clinical decision support to assist doctors with requesting diagnostic imaging services.

ACRRM members are invited to take part in a short trial to review the iRefer imaging guidelines developed in the UK by the Royal College of Radiologists. The trial will collect data to indicate how these guidelines can support health care practice in Australia. It is important that the rural and remote context within which our members work is taken into consideration during the trial.

The trial is being conducted by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) and is looking to recruit 50 GPs in total with the aim of 50% rural GP representation. Your time will be renumerated with the following:

  • $150 for training and induction
  • $150 pilot briefing
  • $150 check in meetings x 4
  • $150 for participating in the evaluation
  • $45 per iRefer test check and data completion to a maximum of 40 image test checks

To be part of this trial and help shape the way medical imaging guidelines could support Australian general practice, please register here.
