The College earlier this month welcomed Dr Peter Keppel into the role of National Lead Medical Educator - Assessment.

Peter brings a mix of experience and skills which will further strengthen ACRRM assessments and foster collaborative relationships within medical education across the country, ensuring further support to registrars as they train, study and prepare for their assessments.

Peter first practised in Yarrawonga in North-East Victoria in 1983 as a GP registrar. He then travelled to the UK to obtain GP anaesthetic and obstetric qualifications. On his return in 1985, Peter was appointed VMO at Yarrawonga Hospital and in 2007 was granted life governorship of the Yarrawonga Hospital. Peter’s work as VMO included emergency, obstetrics and GP anaesthesia.

Peter then commenced as a GP Anaesthetist and VMO at Kerang District Health (KDH) (part time) in 2016, and whilst he left active GP practice in 2019, he remains active as a GP Anaesthetist at KDH.

With the commencement of Bogong Regional Training Network in 2003, Peter was appointed Senior Medical Educator. In 2016 he transitioned to MCCC GP Training and moved to Bendigo in the role of Senior Rural ME - ACRRM and FARGP.

From 2009 - 2014 he took a position with University of Melbourne Medical School based in Shepparton as Director of the Extended Rural Cohort medical student program. This job involved establishing and delivering a rural and regional community-based year for senior medical students.

Peter has also been involved in teaching and training of ACRRM registrars since College inception, has been involved with REST course development and delivery, is an examiner for CGT Stamps and CBD and has worked in exam preparation.

Peter remembers the key people that assisted him early in his medical training and regards them as pivotal to the success of his career. He hopes that along the way he has been able to do the same for others and looks forward to continuing in the same vein with this new role.

Welcome aboard Peter!
