New Zealand and Australian Rural Generalist (RG) obstetricians are working together to establish a workforce model for Rural Generalist (RG) obstetricians.
Dr Sally Street, Rural Director of Training in Tasmania, Dr Brendan Marshal of Charleville Qld, and Dr Alan Furniss from Port Hedland WA, recently travelled to Aetoroa New Zealand to meet with colleagues including Dr Edward Sibahi and the country’s first RG obstetrician Dr Sara Gordon, and discuss RG obstetrician workforce models.
New Zealand established its first RG obstetrician model at Te Nikau Hospital/Greymouth Hospital two years ago.
Dr Street says the program is an opportunity to share information which benefits all parties.
"Tasmania, where I practice, faces similar challenges to those in New Zealand and I certainly think there is a lot we can teach each other. I look forward to catching up again, across the ditch, later in the year," Dr Street says.
