In January, the College provided a submission  to the Select Committee on reproductive, maternal, and paediatric health services in Tasmania. The recommendations emphasised the importance of training, retaining, and supporting a skilled and sustainable Rural Generalist workforce to improve access to maternity services and health outcomes in rural and remote Tasmania. The College also outlined the need to address the unique challenges of rural practice by introducing tailored training and support programs and implementing state-wide and local system changes to better recognise and integrate the existing Rural Generalist workforce into health service teams. The College continues to advocate for increasing the range of quality care options available to women and families, recognising that the reproductive, maternity, and paediatric health service needs vary across different regions and towns throughout the state. The select committee has invited the College to provide an update to January’s previous submission, with consultation underway and a re-submission due mid-September.
