About Dr Peter Arvier

Peter is a University of Queensland graduate and a Rural Generalist Emergency Medicine doctor who developed his passion for rural medicine while working in the small town of Innisfail in far north Queensland as part of a bonded government scholarship. He was inspired by the highly competent ‘rural generalist’ doctors he worked with and their ability to deliver high quality broad scope medical care. His medical career has now taken him to many parts of rural Australia and Canada, but he has now called northwest Tasmania ‘home’ for the past 20 years.

His clinical work has largely been in the field of Emergency Medicine including a research higher degree on training emergency medicine doctors for rural practice. This led to increasing involvement with ACRRM in curriculum development, training and assessment. He helped establish the UTAS Rural Clinical School and was instrumental in setting up the Tasmanian Rural Generalist Pathway. Now nearing retirement, he is still actively involved with mentoring, supporting and educating ACRRM trainees around the state.
