The College constantly reviews the ACRRM Fellowship Program curriculum to ensure registrars receive training and education that best equips them to provide quality healthcare to rural, remote and First Nations communities.

As part of this process, minimum education requirements for new registrars beginning their Fellowship journey from Semester 2, 2024 will change. These changes only apply to new registrars and do not impact current registrars who started on the ACRRM Fellowship program prior to this semester.

You will be supported in completing these education requirements by a dedicated regional training network on your way to becoming a confident and competent Rural Generalist.

More information on these changes can be found via the FAQs below.

New changes that will come into effect are:

  • Attendance and participation in a regional orientation program for CGT/Primary Care will be required for Fellowship Completion
  • Attend and participate in a cultural education program once during training or at change of region (with a minimum of 9 hours completed)
  • Completion of Rural Emergency Skills Training (REST) and Advanced Life Support Level 2 (ALS2) once during training and must be current within 3 years of Fellowship
From time to time, the College reviews the education requirements for Fellowship to ensure that registrars training for Fellowship of ACRRM can acquire the required knowledge and skills to practice safely and confidently as Rural Generalists.
The new FACRRM Education Requirements will apply to registrars commencing the ACRRM Fellowship Program from Semester 2, 2024 onwards.
The new FACRRM Education Requirements will take effect in Semester 2, 2024.
This change does not apply to registrars who commenced in the ACRRM Fellowship Program before Semester 2, 2024.
These changes will apply to all registrars who commence training from semester 2, 2024, regardless of when they were accepted into the program.
Registrars are required to participate in a cultural education program delivered by ACRRM/JCTS1 once during training relevant to the region in which they are training. If a registrar changes training regions, they must attend the cultural education program offered in their new region.

Cultural education programs will be offered regionally in a face-to-face format, and registrars must participate in at least one day (9 hours) of cultural education. This should be completed as early in their training as practicable.
ACRRM recognises that registrars may have completed a range of external cultural education programs before entering training with ACRRM or since joining the program.

Registrars commencing the ACRRM Fellowship program from Semester 2, 2024, should attend the ACRRM cultural education program. If a registrar cannot participate in one of the ACRRM cultural education programs, cultural education delivered by other organisations may meet the requirements with prior approval.
Registrars who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander may not be required to attend. However, they are encouraged to develop an individual cultural education plan with their Medical Educator and cultural educator/cultural mentor upon placement commencement.
