About the Northern Territory

With its outdoor lifestyle, ancient geography and welcoming appeal, the Northern Territory is home to one of the world’s most culturally and linguistically diverse populations. For the adventurous ones, the Northern Territory also offers an opportunity to explore its rich coastal lands along with bushland and deserts. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples make up 30 percent of the Territory's population (compared to 2.4 percent nationally), and reflect 70 percent of consumers in the NT health system.

Rural Generalist training in the Northern Territory is highly rewarding and unlike anywhere else. You have the opportunity to make a real difference in rural and remote healthcare delivery. It is an excellent opportunity to train in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and gain a deep cultural experience along with learning outcomes while working towards closing the gap on Indigenous disadvantage and exploring diverse medicine.

The NT offers over 70 Core Generalist Training (CGT) posts to choose from along with Advanced Specialised Training (AST) in the disciplines of:

  • Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health
  • Academic Practice
  • Adult Internal Medicine
  • Emergency Medicine
