About Queensland

Live and learn in unique locations from tropical rainforests and beaches to rich farmland, mountains and hinterlands to the red dirt of the Queensland outback. Life in Queensland offers plenty, including easy connectivity between rural, regional and metropolitan centres.

Queensland provides registrars with a distinctive Rural Generalist training experience, combining comprehensive training with unique and exciting medicine. As a result, registrars can develop a diverse skill set and make a real impact in communities where they are needed most.

Along with geographic diversity, great weather, and spectacular outdoors, the sunshine state also offers over 200 Core Generalist Training (CGT) posts and more than 60 Advanced Specialised Training (AST) posts in welcoming and lively communities. Available ASTs include Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health, Adult Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Mental Health, Paediatrics, Palliative Care, Population Health, Remote Medicine and Surgery.

QLD GP incentive payment for registrars commencing training in 2025

General practice (GP) sits at the core of the Queensland healthcare system particularly in our rural and remote communities. To bolster Queensland’s primary healthcare services, $24 million has been committed to incentivise trainees to undertake GP training.

Under this incentive, eligible trainees will receive a lump sum payment of $40,000; to support them in their training and therefore improve the accessibility of primary care for all Queenslanders.

The program is aimed at trainees commencing GP training in Queensland in the 2025 calendar year and undertaking placement in a primary care training facility located in QLD.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Meet the relevant citizenship, visa, qualification, Ahpra registration and training requirements to enter a GP training program.
  • Commence GP training and undertake a placement in a primary care training facility located in Queensland 2025.

For more information, please refer to the Eligibility Requirements and Guidelines.

Applications will open soon and will be accepted until 15 October 2025 .

If you have any questions, you can view the QLD Health FAQs here or contact the QLD regional team on training.qld@acrrm.org.au.
